Courts
The majority of Bay Area residents will be under the jurisdiction of one of the following three courts in family law matters:
- The Santa Clara County Superior Court: You are most likely under the jurisdiction of this court if you have lived in California for at least six months and in Santa Clara County for three months.
- The San Mateo County Superior Court: You should file divorce petitions in this court if you are a California resident and have lived in the county for three months.
- The San Francisco County Superior Court: Residents of San Francisco County will work with this court system for their family law needs.
